Come celebrate the release of “How Not to Read: Harnessing The Power of A Literature-Free Life” at Housing Works Bookstore on Tuesday, September 4th @ 7:00 PM. There will be drinks, books, and a free stand-up comedy show! Featuring… Chris Gethard (author of A Bad Idea I’m About to Do, and host of The Chris Gethard Show) Elna Baker (from NPR and author of The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance) Adam Newman (Comedy Central and College Humor) And more! Dearest Better Book Titlers, We’re nearing the release of How Not to Read (September 4th) and I want to see what others come up with as a better book title for the Better Book Titles book. All you have to do is write an e-mail to betterbooktitlebook@gmail.com with a new funny title and I’ll announce the winner next Friday (8/24) and post my favorite ones here. The people who submit the best re-titles will receive a FREE ADVANCE COPY of How Not to Read! The book includes my favorite covers, tips on avoiding terrible books and the terrible people who read them, and summing up whole genres of literature in a single sentence. Examples of my favorite re-titles include: Abridged Too Far, The Secret (but with More Jokes about Drugs and Poop), and Daniel Deronda with Fewer Jews. Happy writing! Dan

Banned Books Week, Day #2 on Better Book Titles Watch me find a book to remove from my shelves so I can finally buy a copy of my own book, How Not to Read. If you have too many books, DONATE THEM to Housing Works and Sandy Relief please! Unless they’re terrible books. Don’t punish other people with terrible books. I will make you a personalized Better Book Title for my book, HOW NOT TO READ (but only until Jan. 1st, 2013 and only if you buy it through Community Bookstore). It makes a great gift, I swear!
